But if you are a careful women and nothing seems complicated, we explain all the tricks we use to clean velvet shoes, safely and from the comfort of your home, to keep them as the first day.

Removing dirt and dust from velvet shoes

As we have already said, this is a very special fabric, and as such it is usually reserved for special occasions. But if you are a woman who does not reserve anything for tomorrow, and likes to show off her best looks at all times, do not hesitate and take out your velvet sandals for the day to day. It's just a matter of being a little careful, avoiding humidity and water at all costs.

Did they get wet by accident? First you must let them dry completely, if your shoes are wet DO NOT try to clean anything until they are completely dry, if you try to clean them while they are not completely dry, the fabric will be damaged, and it will be almost impossible to recover them. Very important: do not place your shoes in a place where they will receive direct sunlight or near a heat source.

Once completely dry, proceed to clean the shoe with a clean and dry cloth (a lint-free cotton cloth or a microfiber cloth), gently rubbing the remaining dirt in the same direction as the 'hair' of the velvet. If the cloth is not enough, use a soft bristle brush (like an old toothbrush), brush gently in the direction of the pile and make sure that the bristles of the brush do not bend until the remaining dust or dirt is removed. If you do this every time you wear your shoes, we assure you that you will keep your shoes or velvet sandals looking like new for a long time.

How to clean velvet shoes

We have already given you some hints, but now we are really going to tell you how to clean velvet shoes. Following this step by step you will be able to clean them to leave them luxurious. First of all, I'll point out the things you need to clean, they are very simple things that we all usually have at home:

  • A soft bristle brush (an old toothbrush works perfectly well).

  • Liquid detergent (any dishwasher for example).

  • A bottle with a stopper, and a glass or container.

Cleaning velvet for a "tune-up"

Gently brush the shoe dry with the soft brush. VERY IMPORTANT to do it in the direction of the 'hair' and without the bristles of the brush bending, if they do, we are rubbing too hard and we can damage the fabric.

Mix a little warm water and a tablespoon of detergent in a bottle, shake the bottle vigorously until you get plenty of foam, pour the contents of the bottle into a glass. Very important! Do not use hot water, as this will damage the velvet irreversibly.

Apply a little foam to the brush and carefully rub the shoe, without using too much pressure, paying particular attention to the stained areas. It is essential that you only use the foam, because if you clean directly with water and the velvet shoes get wet, you run the risk of irreparably damaging them.Remove foam residue with a soft cloth or brush that does NOT contain soapsuds. Let the removed footwear dry away from direct light or any heat source. To see if the stain has disappeared, wait about 20 minutes, and if necessary you can repeat the previous step to clean the shoe again.

It is very important not to use hot water and not to over-wet the shoes.
